The Vientiane Provincial Department of Education and Sports, in collaboration with private enterprise EFG Laos, is preparing to organize the “Run Discovery” competition for the Governor of Vientiane Province on September 7, 2025, in Viengkham District. The event will feature 46 categories across two distances: a 5 km health run-walk and a 10 km mini marathon, offering a total prize pool of 41,600,000 kip.
(KPL) The Vientiane Provincial Department of Education and Sports, in collaboration with private enterprise EFG Laos, is preparing to organize the “Run Discovery” competition for the Governor of Vientiane Province on September 7, 2025, in Viengkham District. The event will feature 46 categories across two distances: a 5 km health run-walk and a 10 km mini marathon, offering a total prize pool of 41,600,000 kip.
So far, 500 athletes have registered to participate. According to Mr. Kham Khanthavivone, Head of the Department of Education and Sports of Vientiane Province, the event is being held to celebrate the upcoming 7th Provincial Party Committee Congress, mark important national and party days, encourage exercise for public health, and provide athletes with opportunities to train for national, regional, and international competitions. It will also serve as a platform to welcome participants from other provinces, Vientiane Capital, and neighboring countries—while promoting tourism in the province, which is known for its beautiful natural scenery and easy accessibility.
The races will start and finish at Vientiane Provincial Technical College, with the 10 km run beginning at 05:45 and the 5 km run at 06:00. The route will take runners along scenic natural trails, across the Nam Ngum Bridge, and through the new roads of Viengkham District.

10 km General Category (Male/Female):
1st place: Trophy, medal & 3,000,000 kip
2nd place: Trophy, medal & 2,500,000 kip
3rd place: Trophy, medal & 2,000,000 kip
4th place: Trophy, medal & 1,500,000 kip
5th place: Trophy, medal & 1,000,000 kip
10 km Age Groups (12–19, 20–29, 30–39, 40–49, 50–59, 60+):
1st place: Trophy, medal & 800,000 kip
2nd place: Trophy, medal & 600,000 kip
3rd place: Trophy, medal & 400,000 kip
5 km Health Run-Walk (Male/Female): Medal for all finishers.

Online registration via QR code is open until September 5, 2025.
On-site registration will be available on September 6, 2025.
Registered participants will receive a commemorative event T-shirt.
