(KPL) At the invitation of Mr. Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and President of the People’s Republic of China, Mr. Thongloun Sisoulith, General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party Central Committee and President of the Lao PDR, led a high-level Lao delegation to Beijing on September 3, 2025, to attend the 80th Anniversary Commemoration of Victory in the Anti-Fascist War at Tiananmen Square.

The People’s Republic of China organized the event on a grand scale to honor the heroic spirit of the Chinese armed forces and people, together with countries worldwide, who fought against foreign invasion during World War II to achieve independence, freedom, and peace.

The ceremony was attended by heads of state and senior representatives from over 26 countries, including Russia, Cuba, DPRK, Mongolia, Nepal, ASEAN members such as Laos, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Cambodia, Singapore, Brunei Darussalam, and Timor-Leste, as well as delegations from the Middle East and Africa, foreign political parties, and the UN Secretary-General. More than 50,000 Chinese citizens also took part. A grand military parade showcased 45 formations of combat forces. Later, President Xi Jinping and his wife hosted a reception in honor of the participating delegations.

The victory in the Anti-Fascist War remains of profound historical significance for peace-loving peoples around the globe, symbolizing freedom, peace, and a warning of the devastating consequences of war. For Laos—once deeply affected by war—participation in the commemoration reflects its consistent policy of working with countries worldwide to promote peace, development, and international cooperation. It also further consolidates the comprehensive strategic partnership and “Four Goods” relationship between Laos and China, contributing to the building of a Laos–China community of shared destiny for the benefit of both peoples.

During this visit, President Thongloun also met with Mr. Luong Cuong, President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, to exchange views on bilateral relations and future cooperation. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between Laos and Vietnam, ensuring these ties continue to grow deeper, stronger, and more fruitful.
