(KPL) Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone has extended warm greetings and encouragement to educational administrators, teachers, students, and parents across the country on the occasion of the opening of the 2025–2026 academic year.

In his message, PM Sonexay described the first day of school as an important event for the education, science, and sports sector, marking the beginning of a new stage of learning and development for students and teachers across the country.

He reaffirmed that the Government has always placed education as a top national priority, following the principle of “putting education before other tasks” and “putting people at the centre” of socio-economic development. “Education,” he said, “is the foundation for developing quality human resources equipped with knowledge, skills, revolutionary ethics, discipline, respect for the law, and good health, so they can contribute effectively to the nation’s development.”

Looking back on the past school year, he praised the education and sports sector for its dedication despite many challenges. Significant progress was achieved, including improvements in school infrastructure, provision of school meals for pre-primary and primary pupils, expansion of inclusive education, increased student allowances, and measures to reduce dropout rates.

Efforts were also made to enhance teaching quality, promote scientific research and innovation, encourage physical fitness, and strengthen Lao sports performance on the international stage.

The Prime Minister expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Education and Sports, local authorities, teachers, parents, and students, as well as international partners, friendly countries, and development organisations for their valuable contributions to education.

Looking ahead, he called on all sectors to work together to address remaining challenges such as high dropout rates, teacher shortages, and the need to expand vocational and higher education enrollment.

The premier stressed the importance of ensuring quality learning and teaching throughout the new academic year to build a stronger foundation for the country’s future development.
