The Vientiane Department of Public Works and Transport has signed an agreement with Japan’s Kubota Construction Co., Ltd. to build a new water treatment plant with a capacity of 40,000 cubic meters per day, under the Vientiane Capital Water Supply Expansion Project.
(KPL) The Vientiane Department of Public Works and Transport has signed an agreement with Japan’s Kubota Construction Co., Ltd. to build a new water treatment plant with a capacity of 40,000 cubic meters per day, under the Vientiane Capital Water Supply Expansion Project.
The agreement, signed in Vientiane on Monday, is part of a major infrastructure initiative financed through a loan from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The total value of the project is approximately 6.48 billion yen (equivalent to 947 billion kip).
Signing the agreement was by Mr. Bounyavath Niraxay, Director General of the Vientiane Department of Public Works and Transport, and Mr. Kensuke Yasue, Manager of the Construction Group at Kubota Construction Co., Ltd. The signing was witnessed by Mr. Saiya Saimongkhoune, General Manager of the Vientiane Capital Water Supply State Enterprise.
Construction is scheduled to begin in October 2025, with completion expected in 2028, over a 30-month period. Upon completion, the project will expand the Chinaimo Water Supply Plant’s total capacity from 80,000 m³/day to 120,000 m³/day, significantly enhancing the capital's water supply infrastructure.
The expanded facilities are expected to ensure a more reliable and adequate supply of clean water for the residents of Vientiane, in line with the city's growing demand and urban development needs.
This project underscores the continued partnership between Laos and Japan in the area of sustainable urban infrastructure development.
