Lao Media Visits Japan's Aid Projects

(KPL) To commemorate the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Laos and Japan (March 5, 1955–2025), the Japanese Embassy in Laos organized a media trip on March 19, 2025.
The tour brought together journalists from various Lao news outlets to showcase Japan’s ongoing contributions to the country’s socio-economic development.

The media delegation was co-led by Mr. Koga Toshimichi, Head of the Economic Section and Ms. Yoshashi Asuka, Head of the Culture and Public Relations Section of the Japanese Embassy in Laos. Joining the media trip included journalists from the Lao News Agency, Lao National Television, Vientiane Times, Lao Post and Laotian Times.
During the visit, the journalists toured several Japan-funded projects in Laos, highlighting the breadth and depth of Japan’s support.

Key sites included the Chinaimo Water Supply Sector Development (JICA Mawasu3 Project), the Women with Disabilities Association, the Setthathirath Hospital Construction Project, the Laos-Japan Human Resource Development Institute, and the Mulberries Maybank Gallery. These visits provided an in-depth look at Japan’s contributions across multiple sectors, including agriculture, education, healthcare, and basic infrastructure.

Minister of Japanese Embassy in Laos, Mr. Tasaka Takuro, emphasized that economic cooperation between the two countries began in 1969. Since then, Japan has played a pivotal role in supporting Laos’ development through projects such as the construction of water dams, Lao-Thai bridges, and road improvements linking Laos and Thailand.

Mr. Tasaka Takuro also highlighted ongoing initiatives in agricultural training, healthcare infrastructure, and vocational skills development, all of which are integral to Laos’ long-term growth. He noted that Japan’s aid places a strong emphasis on human resource development, with skilled Japanese professionals and experts being deployed to Laos for one to two years to share knowledge and train local citizens in various fields.
This focus on capacity-building remains a cornerstone of Japan’s foreign assistance to Laos, fostering a strong and enduring partnership between the two nations.

As Laos and Japan celebrate 70 years of diplomatic ties, this milestone serves as a testament to their enduring friendship and shared commitment to advancing development and mutual understanding.
