(KPL) D-Book Publishing, in partnership with the National University of Laos (NUOL), is organizing the 5th Book Festival from March 12–16, 2025, at NUOL’s main hall on its Dongdok Campus.
The event celebrates the 50th anniversary of Laos’ National Day (December 2, 1975–2025) under the theme “Reading for Development,” spotlighting the nation’s strides in education and literary culture. Attendees include NUOL’s Vice President, educators, authors, artists, publishers, booksellers, and students.
During the opening ceremony, Mr. Sommay Phommachanh, Director of D-Book Publishing, emphasized the festival’s role in reflecting Laos’ educational and cultural progress over the past half-century.
“This festival honors our journey in advancing literacy, publishing, and education while setting benchmarks for future growth,” he stated. Activities include exhibitions of historical Lao texts, panel discussions on reading’s impact on national development, and cultural performances celebrating the nation’s heritage. Award-winning works from pivotal eras of Laos’ modernization will also be displayed.

More than a commemoration of 50 years of national achievements, the festival promotes lifelong learning and aims to cultivate a robust reading culture. Aligned with Laos’ 2025 Human Resource Development Strategy, it positions reading as a cornerstone of individual and societal advancement.
Free and open daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, the festival invites the public to explore Laos’ literary legacy and contribute to building an educated, culturally vibrant society.
