(KPL) National Assembly members on Tuesdaypassed amendments to the Law on Government with 92 voting in favour, 18 refusing to cast votes and no members voting against it.
The approval of the amended law was announced at the ongoing 10th Ordinary Session of the National Assembly’s 7th legislature in the presence of the Vice President of the top legislative body, Mr Somphanh Phengkhammy.
“The amendment represents the implementation of the renovation policy of the Party and is in line with the 8th Five-year National Socio-economic Development Plan and the Constitution,” Minister to the Government Office, Mr Sonxay Siphandone told the meeting.
“Some articles of the old law were not in line with the current environment of the society so the government decided to make amendments to them,” he said.
The previous version of the Law on Government was adopted in 2003 and comprised 8 chapters and 38 articles. Its current version comprises 8 chapters and 36 articles.
The Law on Government determines the organisation, operation, and working regime of the government for effective administration by the State, management of socio-economic growth, proper utilization of national resources, protection of the environment, and ensure the implementation of the national constitution, laws and regulations thereby enhancing prosperity in the country.
Prior to the approval of the law, law makers discussed the rights and duties of the government, and the rights and duties of the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Ministers.
