(KPL) On January 2, a freight train loaded with fresh vegetables and fruits departed from Wangjiaying West Railway Station in Kunming, Yunnan Province, heading south towards Laos.

This marked a significant milestone, with the total volume of goods transported via the Laos-China Railway exceeding 50 million tons since the railway's inauguration in 2021, China Media Group reports.

According to statistics, the volume of goods transported via the Laos-China Railway in 2024 alone reached 19.6 million tons, averaging over 50,000 tons per day. Of this, cross-border shipments accounted for 4.78 million tons. Notably, China’s imports significantly outpaced exports, reflecting robust market demand and thriving trade activity.

The Laos-China Railway has undergone notable transformations, evolving from initial operations to smooth services, accelerating to high-speed operations, and increasing the frequency of trips.

This development has strengthened transportation capacity and deepened cooperation between China and ASEAN countries in areas such as trade and investment.

As a result, economic and commercial exchanges have grown stronger, further boosting global trade connectivity.
