(KPL) Authorities in Ponthong District, Luang Prabang Province, have issued a warning urging local residents to prepare for potential flooding due to rising water levels in various rivers.

Recent heavy rainfall has caused significant increases in the water levels of the Nam Man, Nam Mat, and Nam Seng rivers.

Since July 23, 2024, the district has experienced constant heavy rainfall, leading to substantial water accumulation from streams and tributaries. This has caused the water levels to rise steadily, posing a threat of flooding to the area.

The ongoing situation has already caused considerable damage, particularly to crops, production areas, and some residential properties. In response, local authorities have deployed teams from the military and police to assist affected residents, particularly in Don Ngien village, which is situated along the banks of the Nam Seng river and has been one of the first areas to experience the impact.

Relevant district departments are currently assessing the damage to report to higher authorities and provide initial assistance to the affected families. The community is urged to stay alert and take necessary precautions to mitigate the impact of the natural disaster.
