(KPL) A 500-kilovolt transmission line from a substation in Khong District, Champasak Province to Laos-Cambodia border was put into operation on Jan 3.
The launching ceremony for the development project was attended by Deputy Minister and Deputy Head of the Prime Minister's Office Khamlawan Chanthalawan, Deputy Minister of Energy and Mines Thongphat Inthavong, and representatives of relevant authorities.
“The project demonstrates the contribution of the state-owned Électricité du Laos to the national development, providing electricity to the people for daily use,” said General Director of EDL Chanthaboun Suk-aloun.
The power development project is the first project in the Lao PDR to be implemented under a build-operate-transfer (BOT) contract by Yunnan Energy Investment (HK) Co., Limited.
The 150-million-dollar project installed 200 km network of power lines in Khong and Pathumphon districts of Champassak Province and Sanamxay and Phouvong districts of Attapeu Province.
