KPL National Assembly member Somboun Sihanat of Constituency 13, Savannakhet Province, has urged the government to speed up road repairs and strengthen controls on entertainment venues to protect young people.

(KPL) Speaking during the 2nd Ordinary Session of the 10th National Assembly on October 5, 2026, Mr Somboun raised the issues while commenting on the government's 2026 socio-economic development, State Budget and Monetary Plans, as well as directions for 2027.

He said poor road conditions, particularly following the rainy season and flooding, have drawn widespread public criticism. Major transport routes, roads to tourist destinations and access roads to railway stations in several areas remain damaged, with potholes and dust affecting transport and the country's tourism image.

Mr Somboun called on the government to consider allocating a special budget for the timely repair and maintenance of strategic roads and railway access routes. He also stressed the need for transparent bidding and appropriate cost estimates to ensure efficient use of public funds.

He also raised concerns about young people's access to entertainment venues, saying field monitoring indicated that more than half of patrons at some pubs, bars and entertainment venues were under 18.

He urged relevant ministries and authorities to strengthen inspections and strictly enforce age restrictions. He also recommended adopting effective practices from neighbouring countries, including checking identification documents and preventing underage people from entering entertainment venues.

He said stronger enforcement was needed to protect young people and ensure their wellbeing as the future generation of the country.
