The National Assembly Standing Committee held its monthly meeting on September 21–22, 2026, reviewing a range of legislative, economic and administrative issues and preparations for the 2nd Ordinary Session of the 10th Legislature.
(KPL) The meeting was chaired by Acting President of the National Assembly Standing Committee Sounthone Xayachack and attended by members of the Standing Committee, National Assembly committee vice chairpersons, deputy heads of the National Assembly Secretariat, government ministers and representatives of relevant organisations.
The committee considered several proposals submitted by the Government, including measures to mobilise funds for national development, a request concerning the application of certain provisions of the Law on Minerals to a coal exploration project in Phongsaly Province, and fuel-related exemptions under the Law on Excise Tax.
It also reviewed the results of negotiations on the Agreement for the Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with Respect to Taxes on Income between the Lao PDR and Hong Kong.
A key part of the meeting was the review of inspection reports on five revised draft laws to be submitted to the 2nd Ordinary Session of the National Assembly for consideration and approval. The drafts cover the Law on the People's Public Security Forces, Law on Cybercrime Prevention and Suppression, Law on the Control of Alcoholic Beverages, Law on the Government, and Law on Civil Aviation.
The Standing Committee also reviewed preparations for the upcoming parliamentary session and considered internal personnel matters of the National Assembly.
The meeting forms part of ongoing preparations to ensure that legislative proposals and other key issues are thoroughly reviewed before being submitted to the National Assembly for consideration.
