(KPL) Laos and the Republic of Korea have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in public works and transport, with a focus on modern technology, infrastructure development and sustainable transport systems.
The commitment was made during a bilateral meeting between Mr. Leklai Sivilay, Minister of Public Works and Transport, and Mr. Kim Yun-Dok, Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) of the Republic of Korea, on September 15, 2026, on the sidelines of the GICC 2026 conference.
The two sides reviewed their cooperation over recent years and expressed appreciation for the assistance and projects implemented between the two ministries.
During the meeting, the Lao side outlined several priorities for future cooperation, including technical assistance, machinery and modern technologies to support the establishment of road maintenance units in provinces across the country.
Laos also called for greater investment, technical expertise and smart technologies from the Republic of Korea to support sustainable infrastructure development, particularly the Laos-Vietnam railway project.
The Lao side further proposed accelerating the implementation of existing memorandums of understanding (MOUs) so that agreed areas of cooperation can be translated into concrete projects and results.
Both sides agreed to continue strengthening cooperation, sharing technical expertise and exchanging experiences to support the modernization and sustainable development of Laos’ public works and transport sector.
