China provides US$20,000 in emergency aid for flood recovery in northern Laos

KPL The Government of the People’s Republic of China has provided US$20,000 in emergency humanitarian assistance to support flood-affected communities in northern Laos.

(KPL) The Government of the People’s Republic of China has provided US$20,000 in emergency humanitarian assistance to support flood-affected communities in northern Laos.

The assistance was handed over at a ceremony at the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare on September 14, 2026, by Mr. Fang Hong, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to the Lao PDR.

Mr. Phoxay Xayasone, Minister of Labour and Social Welfare and Permanent Vice-Chairman of the National Disaster Management Committee, received the assistance on behalf of the Lao Government.

Ambassador Fang expressed sympathy and concern for people affected by flooding in the northern provinces and reaffirmed China’s readiness to support Laos in overcoming the impacts of natural disasters. He said the assistance reflected the longstanding friendship and close cooperation between the two countries.

Minister Phoxay expressed appreciation to the Chinese Government and people for their timely support, saying the assistance would help ease difficulties faced by communities affected by the floods and support their recovery.

According to the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare, the funds will be used to purchase food, essential household supplies and medicines, as well as to support the repair of flood-damaged infrastructure. The ministry said the assistance would be delivered promptly and transparently to affected communities.
