During a working visit with senior provincial officials, the President urged the provincial Party Committee and administration to continue implementing the resolutions of the 12th Party Congress and the 7th Vientiane Provincial Party Congress to ensure development targets are achieved.
He called for tougher action against illegal mining, with closer coordination between central, provincial, and district authorities, as well as stricter land management and stronger grassroots administration through improved coordination between districts and subdistricts.
The President also stressed the importance of restoring the Nam Song River, tackling social problems in Vangvieng District to ensure a safe environment for visitors, implementing urban development in line with the approved master plan, and preserving the quality of tourist attractions to support sustainable tourism.
He said these efforts are essential to developing Vangvieng into an internationally recognized tourist destination.

During the meeting, Phouthanoupet Xaysombath, Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Vientiane Provincial Party Committee, and President of the Vientiane Provincial People's Council, reported on the province's socio-economic performance during the first six months of 2026 and outlined priorities for the remainder of the year.
He said the provincial leadership had focused on maintaining political stability, strengthening security, advancing socio-economic development, and reinforcing grassroots governance.
During the first half of 2026, the provincial economy expanded by 3.4 percent, with gross domestic product reaching 12.43 trillion kip and per capita income estimated at US$1,154. Budget revenue totaled 975.72 billion kip, while the province welcomed approximately 1.93 million tourist arrivals.
The province also continued implementing Resolution No. 04 on building a self-reliant and resilient economy. It reported 876 clean, strong, and effective Party units, representing 67.85 percent of the total, while maintaining political stability and public order.
Officials also highlighted progress in education, healthcare, and poverty reduction. All villages have remained poverty-free, the poverty rate has declined to 0.85 percent, and 97 percent of residents now have access to clean water. In addition, the province completed the establishment of 35 subdistricts across its 11 districts.
Regarding Vangvieng District, officials noted that its rich natural attractions and improving infrastructure have positioned it as a national tourism destination. However, challenges remain, including traffic congestion, the deteriorating condition of National Road 13 North, the protection of the Nam Song River, and the environmental impacts of mining activities.
During the visit, the President also toured several tourist attractions in Vangvieng District, including Tham Chang Cave, the Vai O Farm fruit plantation in Naxay Village, the Keo Bridge tourist site in Huay Seng Ngao Village, and Tham Non and Tham Nang Fa caves.
