The Bolikhamxay Provincial Public Security Department has confirmed a fatal traffic accident involving a long-distance sleeper bus traveling along National Road 13.

Accident Overview

The incident occurred at approximately 4:20 AM on April 22, 2026, near Nam Deua Village in the Pakkading District of Bolikhamxay Province. The bus was en route from Pakse to the capital city of Vientiane.

The vehicle was carrying a total of 48 individuals, including 46 passengers, one bus assistant and one driver.

Casualties and Rescue Efforts

Following immediate rescue operations by local authorities and nearby residents, eight fatalities—including one foreign national—were confirmed, while 35 others sustained various injuries.

Initial investigations suggest that environmental conditions and vehicle speed were primary factors in the crash. At the time of the accident, heavy rainfall had made the road surface exceptionally slippery. It is reported that the vehicle was traveling at a high speed, causing the driver to lose control and the bus to overturn.

Authorities are currently providing medical assistance to the victims and facilitating the repatriation of the deceased. A comprehensive investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances of the crash
