Sekong Province’s Economy Records Steady Growth in 2025

(KPL) Sekong Province has reported continued economic growth in 2025, with the provincial economy expanding by 5.7 percent of GDP, according to provincial sources.

Mr. Khanti Silavongsa, Chairman of the Sekong Provincial Administrative Committee, delivered the report at the 10th Ordinary Session of the Sekong Provincial People’s Assembly, Term IV, on December 29, 2025.

He said Sekong Province maintained political stability and social order while achieving economic output valued at 3,364 billion kip. The agriculture sector grew by 3.64 percent, accounting for 62.95 percent of GDP. The industrial sector expanded by 7.12 percent, contributing 23.19 percent, while the service sector increased by 6.46 percent, accounting for 13.86 percent.

By the end of 2025, total revenue collection is expected to reach 1,173 billion kip, exceeding the revised plan at 115.73 percent. Of this, central budget revenue implemented locally reached 135 billion kip, or 141.47 percent of the plan, while provincial budget revenue amounted to 1,038 billion kip, or 113.04 percent.

Imports totaled 11.79 million US dollars, equivalent to 150 percent of the plan, mainly consisting of construction materials, machinery, vehicles, fertilizers, and crop varieties. Exports reached 281.30 million US dollars, or 146.69 percent of the plan, resulting in a trade surplus of 269.51 million US dollars. Key export products included coal, electricity, charcoal, agricultural goods, and forest products.

In the social sector, education efforts focused on implementing the three characteristics and five principles, with nine out of 15 targets achieved. Issues related to school dropouts and student absenteeism showed improvement. Public health services emphasized improving service quality and medical treatment under the “five goods and one satisfaction” strategy.

Tourism infrastructure development and the preservation of ethnic cultural heritage continued. Labor development and social welfare activities were strengthened, with 49 workers trained, labor import authorization granted to 37 units involving 91 workers, and registration or renewal of foreign worker permits for 104 units covering 480 workers.

Looking ahead to 2026, Sekong Province aims to achieve economic growth of six percent or higher. The agriculture sector is expected to grow by 6.4 percent, industry by 6.8 percent, and services by 4.9 percent. Average per capita income is projected to reach 25.17 million kip, or approximately 1,160 US dollars. Estimated revenue collection is set at 427.65 billion kip, with planned regular expenditures of 537.58 billion kip.
