(KPL) The Vientiane People’s Court says it has overhauled the way cases are handled over the past five years, promising faster decisions and greater fairness.

Reporting to the Vientiane People’s Council on 19 December 2025, court president Malaykham Sounaphone said new procedures had been introduced to tighten each stage of proceedings, reduce delays and prevent errors. The session was chaired by council vice-president Lamphoy Siakachan.

According to the report, the court reviewed shortcomings on a case-by-case basis, introduced handling models for different types of disputes and required judges to follow standardised formats when drafting verdicts. Judgments must be clear, evidence-based and address all requests from litigants. Members of the public and relevant sectors have also been encouraged to submit evidence and monitor proceedings.

The court said resolutions from the National Judges’ Congress had been widely disseminated to ensure officials fully understood updated guidance.

Figures show that between December 2021 and November 2025, a total of 9,335 cases were recorded, including 7,764 new filings. Of these, 7,438 were resolved, leaving 1,492 cases still pending.

The reforms, the court said, have improved both the speed and quality of case resolution across Vientiane and its four district people’s courts, with ongoing reviews of case data and judgments aimed at addressing remaining weaknesses and preventing future legal violations.
