The Taekwondo competition of the 12th National Games, known as the “Vientiane Games 2025,” officially opened on the afternoon of 18 November at the Bu Yeong Indoor Stadium in Dong Dok.

(KPL) The Taekwondo competition of the 12th National Games, known as the “Vientiane Games 2025,” officially opened on the afternoon of 18 November at the Bu Yeong Indoor Stadium in Dong Dok.
The ceremony was attended by Mr Atsaphangthong Siphandone, Mayor of Vientiane and President of the Games’ Organising Committee, along with Mr Pasatsay Philaphandeth, President of the Lao National Taekwondo Federation, Mrs Bouavone Souklasaeng, President of the Vientiane Taekwondo Federation, representatives of provincial sports committees, delegation leaders, coaches, referees, athletes, and invited guests.
Taekwondo is one of 33 sports featured at the Games, held from 15–25 November. The competition aims to develop young athletes, promote unity and friendship among provinces and ministries, strengthen sportsmanship, and help prepare national athletes ahead of the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand at the end of 2025.
A total of 139 athletes including 59 women from 13 sectors are competing across two disciplines: Sparring (Kyorugi) and Poomsae (Forms). The Taekwondo events will award 26 gold, 26 silver, and 52 bronze medals.
On the opening day, six Poomsae events were contested: Men’s and Women’s Individual Poomsae, Men’s and Women’s Team Poomsae (three athletes), Mixed Pair Poomsae, and Mixed Team Freestyle Poomsae (five athletes).
Day One Results
Men’s Individual Poomsae: Gold – Khammouane; Silver – Xiengkhouang; Bronze – Champasak and Ministry of National Defense (joint).
Women’s Individual Poomsae: Gold – Champasak; Silver – Ministry of Public Security; Bronze – Luang Prabang and Savannakhet (joint).
Men’s Team Poomsae (3): Gold – Ministry of Public Security; Silver – Khammouane; Bronze – Vientiane.
Women’s Team Poomsae (3): Gold – Khammouane; Silver – Xiengkhouang; Bronze – Vientiane.
Mixed Pair Poomsae: Gold – Xiengkhouang; Silver – Champasak; Bronze – Khammouane and Luang Prabang (joint).
Mixed Team Freestyle Poomsae (5): Gold – Xiengkhouang; Silver – Khammouane; Bronze – Champasak and Vientiane (Host) (joint).
