(KPL) President of the National Assembly of the Lao PDR, Mr. Xaysomphone Phomvihane, received a courtesy call from Belarusian Foreign Minister Maxim Ryzhenkov and his delegation during their official visit to Laos from July 16–18, 2025.

Mr. Xaysomphone warmly welcomed the delegation and expressed his appreciation for Minister Ryzhenkov’s visit, noting that it contributes significantly to strengthening the longstanding friendship and cooperation between Laos and Belarus, particularly between their legislative bodies.

He highlighted the consistent collaboration between the National Assembly of Laos and the House of People’s Deputies of Belarus, citing regular exchanges of high-level and working-level delegations, joint messages of congratulations on national occasions, and sustained communication between the two legislative leaders.

The two sides also maintain close coordination in regional and international parliamentary forums, such as AIPA, ASEP, IPU, and others. Notably, in 2024, Mr. Igor Sergeenko, Chairman of the Belarusian House of People’s Deputies, paid an official visit to Laos and co-signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Lao National Assembly during the 45th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly hosted by Laos.

Mr. Xaysomphone emphasized the Lao National Assembly’s commitment to promoting bilateral ties through legislative support, implementation monitoring of agreements, and enhanced cooperation in international affairs.

In response, Foreign Minister Ryzhenkov thanked the Lao side for the warm hospitality and highlighted the positive outcomes of the recent talks between the foreign ministries of both countries. The discussions reviewed bilateral cooperation since the establishment of diplomatic ties on February 7, 1994, assessed regional and global developments, and explored future collaboration opportunities. He also provided updates on the current situation in Belarus.
