KPL Senior officials from Laos and Thailand met in Luang Prabang Province on October 1 to review bilateral cooperation and prepare for the 23rd Lao-Thai Joint Commission (JC) Meeting on Cooperation scheduled for October 2.

(KPL) The Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM) was co-chaired by Mr. Anoupharb Vongnorkeo, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao PDR, and Ms. Eksiri Pintaruji, Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs of Thailand, with delegations from both countries attending.

The meeting reviewed preparations for the 23rd JC meeting, including both substantive and logistical arrangements. Officials also reviewed implementation of the Minutes of the 22nd Lao-Thai Joint Commission Meeting held in 2021.

Over the past five years, bilateral cooperation has made progress in various areas, contributing to the strengthening of friendly relations and good-neighbourly cooperation between Laos and Thailand.

The two sides also discussed future cooperation plans and worked towards finalising the Minutes of the 23rd Joint Commission Meeting. The document is expected to provide a framework for further strengthening bilateral cooperation and advancing the Strategic Partnership for Growth and Sustainable Development.

Discussions were held in an open and constructive atmosphere, with both sides exchanging views and seeking common ground on areas of cooperation.

Earlier on October 1, three sub-working groups met to review progress and prepare recommendations for future cooperation. The groups covered political and security affairs; economic cooperation; and social and development affairs, including cultural and social cooperation.

The groups reviewed implementation of the 22nd JC meeting’s agreements and discussed cooperation priorities for the coming years.
