KPL Minister of Public Works and Transport Leklai Sivilay on Sep 26 issued new directives regarding the ongoing construction of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) stations along Setthathirat Avenue in Vientiane. The instruction mandates the removal of two BRT bus stations currently under construction, located between Ongtu Temple and the French Embassy.

The minister emphasized that the stations should be relocated to more suitable roadside locations rather than being positioned in the middle of the road.

In addition to the station adjustments, the minister has also ordered the removal of traffic curves that currently separate BRT lanes from regular traffic lanes between the Kaysone Phomvihane intersection, 450-Year Road, and the National University of Laos (Dongdok). The previously installed curves, which were designed to segregate bus lanes from general traffic, will now be replaced by painted lines for better traffic flow and safer road conditions.

The decision follows public outcry over traffic congestion, with many citizens claiming that the construction of BRT facilities has contributed to the increased traffic jams in the capital city.
