(KPL) Thongloun Sisoulith has outlined seven key priorities for the 10th Government during its inaugural meeting on March 31.

The Lao President and General Secretary of the Party Central Committee called on the new cabinet to focus on improving efficiency, strengthening governance, and addressing urgent economic challenges.

He urged the government to make a breakthrough in work mechanisms to ensure more effective implementation and deliver tangible results from development projects.

Modernization was highlighted as another priority, with a call to accelerate progress and achieve practical outcomes in a timely manner.

The President also emphasized the need to refine working methods, improve coordination, and strengthen accountability. He encouraged government members to be innovative and proactive in proposing new ideas based on party policies and state laws.

He called for stricter organizational streamlining across ministries, equivalent agencies, and local administrations to enhance efficiency in carrying out responsibilities.

On economic issues, Mr. Thongloun stressed the importance of maintaining financial stability, including managing fuel supplies, controlling inflation, stabilizing the value of the kip, strengthening the national treasury, and increasing foreign currency reserves.

He also called for boosting domestic production, particularly projects aimed at import substitution and export-oriented goods with high value and low production and transport costs.

Infrastructure development remains a priority, especially the repair of critical and deteriorating roads and key transport routes.

The President highlighted the need to implement major development projects through various investment models, reform state-owned enterprises, address public debt, and ensure the recovery of outstanding debts.

He also urged the government to prepare for graduation from Least Developed Country status by 2029, with a clear transition plan to maintain support from development partners.

Mr. Thongloun further instructed authorities to conduct strict inspections of all domestic and foreign investment projects and to take decisive action against those that are ineffective or non-compliant with regulations.

He also called for continued strict enforcement of Order No. 15/PM on forestry management, including the control of timber extraction, transport, and trade to ensure legal compliance and sustainability.
