(KPL) Mr. Xaysana Khoutphouthone, Member of the Party Central Committee and Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee of Khammouane, on March 17 officially received a delegation from the Lao–Vietnamese Volunteer Veterans Liaison Committee of Hai Phong City, Vietnam.

The delegation was led by Mr. Doan Van Bao, Head of the Liaison Committee, during their working visit to Khammouane Province.

Mr. Xaysana extended a warm welcome to the delegation and highly valued the visit, noting its significance as Khammouane prepares to mark the 80th anniversary of the Battle for the Defense of Thakhek (March 21, 1946 – March 21, 2026).

He emphasized that the visit represents an important milestone in further strengthening the long-standing friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between Laos and Vietnam, particularly between Khammouane Province and Hai Phong City.

Both sides underscored the importance of preserving and passing on the legacy of this special relationship to younger generations to ensure its continued stability and sustainability.

As part of the visit, Mr. Doan Van Bao presented commemorative medals from the Vietnam Veterans Association to the leadership of Khammouane Province, symbolizing solidarity and mutual respect.

On the same day, the Vietnamese delegation also held a working session with the Khammouane Provincial Veterans Federation to enhance cooperation and exchange experiences.

The visit concluded with a wreath-laying ceremony at the statue of President Souphanouvong and Lao national heroes. The ceremony paid tribute to President Souphanouvong, a prominent leader of the Lao Party, State, and people, who personally commanded the historic Battle for the Defense of Thakhek 80 years ago.
