The Supreme People's Prosecutor Office convened an International Cooperation Meeting on Countering Cybercrime on Feb. 24–25, 2026, at the Crowne Plaza Vientiane to strengthen cross-border legal cooperation and extradition in response to rising cyber threats.

(KPL) The Supreme People's Prosecutor Office convened an International Cooperation Meeting on Countering Cybercrime on Feb. 24–25, 2026, at the Crowne Plaza Vientiane to strengthen cross-border legal cooperation and extradition in response to rising cyber threats.
The meeting was chaired by Mr. Khamphet Somvorachit, Standing Member of the Party Committee and Deputy Head of the Supreme People's Prosecutor Office, with technical support from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.
Around 40 representatives attended from key national institutions, including People’s Prosecutor Offices, the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Justice, the Supreme People's Court, the Ministry of Technology and Communications, the Anti-Money Laundering Intelligence Office, and the Bank of the Lao PDR.
The event aimed to enhance the capacity of Lao law enforcement agencies to implement international criminal cooperation and extradition procedures more effectively and promptly. Participants were also introduced to the International Criminal Cooperation Manual endorsed in 2025 and exchanged views with international experts on emerging cybercrime trends, including online fraud, data theft, and cryptocurrency-related money laundering.
Mr. Khamphet Somvorachit commended progress made in international legal cooperation and urged participants to apply the knowledge gained to strengthen institutional coordination. He emphasized closer collaboration among prosecution bodies, investigation agencies, courts, and relevant ministries at both central and local levels to improve the effectiveness of responses to transnational and cybercrime.
He further called for modernized and integrated approaches aligned with international obligations to safeguard national interests and advance the justice sector of the Lao PDR in regional and global integration
