KPL Laos has convened a national seminar on social protection to examine how digitalisation can support policy transformation and improve public services in the new era.

The event, held in Vientiane on 12 December, was organised by the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare and chaired by Labour and Social Welfare Minister Phosay Sayasone, who is also head of the Central Social Protection Committee. Officials and stakeholders from relevant sectors attended the seminar.

Mr Phosay said social protection had become a growing priority globally and across Asia, as governments seek to ensure basic security for all citizens throughout their lives and to prevent poverty, exclusion and discrimination. He said international commitments, including the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, had helped shape national approaches to reducing poverty and social inequality.

He added that Laos had incorporated regional and international social protection commitments into national policies, legislation and successive five-year socio-economic development plans, with measures ranging from education and workforce development to health insurance, social insurance, nutrition programmes and targeted assistance for vulnerable groups.
