(KPL/VNA) A total of 84 outcome documents are expected to be issued at the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits, to be held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from October 26 to 28, according to Malaysia’s Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.
This reflects Malaysia’s commitment as ASEAN Chair this year to strengthening the regional community’s direction towards achieving the ASEAN Vision 2045, Mohamad told media after inspecting preparations for the summit on October 13.
The minister noted that this year’s summit would also introduce a new approach, with foreign ministers and economic ministers jointly participating in the general discussion session to make decisions for the first time. Accordingly, Malaysia aims to align the decisions made by economic ministers and ensure they are taken into account by foreign ministers.
Within the framework of the summit, the ASEAN Zero Emission Community Meeting with dialogue partners Australia and Japan will also be held, aiming to establish the region as a zero-emission community. Delegates are expected to discuss the ASEAN-US Trade Agreement and the enhancement of the ASEAN-China Free Trade Agreement (FTA) 3.0.
Mohamad said he would chair the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Retreat on October 24 and 25 to discuss various issues, including the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (TAC) and Timor- Leste’s admission as an ASEAN member.
He added that preparations for the summit remain on schedule.
On the same day, Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim inspected the venue, including the conference hall setup, media facilities, and security arrangements for the summit.
