(KPL/Yonhap) Republic of Korean artificial intelligence (AI) chip startup Rebellions Inc. said Tuesday it will establish a unit in Saudi Arabia as part of its push to enter the Middle East market.
The new office in Riyadh will serve as an operations hub to ensure a stable supply of chips tailored to Saudi Aramco, the state-run oil giant.
The move follows a 20 billion-won (US$14.4 million) investment Rebellions received from Aramco in July last year.
Rebellions said it is also in talks with Saudi Arabia's telecom operators for partnerships, as well as with local information technology companies, in a bid to diversify its business portfolio.
The startup is further eyeing opportunities in Saudi Arabia's large-scale AI initiatives, which aim to build comprehensive AI infrastructure across the oil-rich nation.
"The establishment of a Saudi unit will be the starting point for our vision to keep up with rising demand for sovereign AI in the region," Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Park Sung-hyun said.
