(KPL/Prensa Latina) Russia will build the first nuclear power plant on the Moon, as a platform for future bases on the Earth's natural satellite, Dmitri Bakanov, General Director of the Russian Space Agency (Roscosmos), said on Friday.

The official Telegram channel of Roscosmos informed that Bakanov, who sent a message to the nation on National Day, spoke about those plans and about continuing the exploration of Venus.

The executive recalled that Russia remains the only country that has managed to land a device on Venus surface.

Bakanov also mentioned as a priority the building of a new orbital station, which should replace the current International Space Station (ISS).

Roscosmos previously reported that 13 countries, including the BRICS countries such as Egypt, Ethiopia, and South Africa, joined the initiative to build an International Scientific Lunar Station (ILRS).
