(KPL) Top lawmakers and government officials gathered today at the National Assembly for a crucial preparatory meeting ahead of the 9th Ordinary Session of the 9th Legislature, setting the stage for important policy decisions and legal reforms in the coming months.

Presiding over the meeting, Mrs. Sounthone Sayachak, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and Vice President of the National Assembly, emphasized the session's critical role in shaping Laos' development agenda. "This preparatory work ensures our upcoming session will consider well-prepared, high-quality documents that meet our nation's needs," she stated.

The day-long deliberations centered on several priority areas of review of the 2025 state budget and monetary policy, finalization of the 10th Five-Year National Development Plan (2026-2030), special infrastructure development policies.

Lawmakers examined six draft laws, including significant legislation on cybersecurity regulations, agricultural development (Plant Cultivation Law), early childhood education reforms, proposed amendments to the National Assembly Law, updates to election regulations, measures to enhance women's representation in government

The meeting brought together members of the National Assembly Standing Committee, Provincial People's Council leaders, key ministers and deputy ministers and representatives from relevant government agencies.

The refined proposals will be presented during the official session later this month, where they will undergo final debate and voting. Observers note this preparatory process demonstrates Laos' commitment to methodical, inclusive lawmaking.

Such preparatory meetings have become standard practice in Laos' legislative process, ensuring thorough review of proposals before they reach the full assembly. The approach has been credited with improving the quality of legislation and implementation effectiveness in recent years.

The National Assembly's 9th Ordinary Session is expected to convene within weeks, with outcomes likely to influence Laos' policy direction through 2030.
