Laos and China Partner to Improve Beef Cattle Breeds

The partnership, aimed at enhancing Laos' cattle industry, brings together the Agriculture and Forestry Research Institute and RiyanYu Beijing Technology Co., Ltd.

(KPL) A significant step in agricultural collaboration was taken as Laos and China signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the Research and Development of Improved Beef Cattle Breeds. The partnership, aimed at enhancing Laos' cattle industry, brings together the Agriculture and Forestry Research Institute and RiyanYu Beijing Technology Co., Ltd.

The agreement focuses on crossbreeding local Lao cattle with high-quality breeds from China, utilizing advanced breeding techniques to improve growth rates and body size, meat quality for market demands, adaptability to the local environment and economic benefits for farmers

By promoting sustainable cattle farming, the project will benefit both smallholder farmers and large-scale commercial farms.

The signing ceremony was attended by leading representatives from both countries, including Dr. Phetmany Saengsanya, Director of the Agriculture and Forestry Research Institute, Mr. Phommy Inthichak, Deputy Director of the Department of Planning and Cooperation, Mr. Phanthavong Vongsamphan, Deputy Director of the Department of Livestock and Fisheries, Mr. Wang Kong Yang, President of RiyanYu Beijing Technology Co., Ltd.,

Prof. Lu Shaogui, Senior Livestock Expert from Yunnan Vocational College of Animal Science and Technology.

A key objective of this partnership is to increase cattle exports to China by supplying high-quality beef cattle. The project will also support breeding programs, genetic improvements, and farm development, ensuring long-term growth in Laos’ livestock sector.

This public-private collaboration marks a crucial milestone for Laos' agricultural future, fostering innovation and strengthening the nation's position in the global beef industry.
