KPL Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone met with Klaus Schwab, Founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum (WEF), on October 11, 2024, at the National Convention Centre (NCC), Vientiane.

(KPL) Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone met with Klaus Schwab, Founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum (WEF), on October 11, 2024, at the National Convention Centre (NCC), Vientiane.

Mr. Schwab and his delegation are in the Lao PDR to attend the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits, the 2024 ASEAN Business and Investment Summit, and other related meetings held from October 9-11, 2024.

The meeting aimed to enhance cooperation between the Lao PDR and the WEF, with a focus on promoting sustainable economic development.

Prime Minister Sonexay welcomed Mr. Schwab and his delegation, expressing his deep appreciation for WEF’s role in fostering collaboration between the public and private sectors, and its contributions to advancing discussions on regional and global economic issues, including those affecting Laos.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister also shared his perspectives on the global and Asian economic landscape. He noted the fragile state of the world economy, where numerous challenges have hindered recovery efforts, particularly in developing and least-developed countries.

The World Economic Forum, established in 1971, is a Swiss non-profit organization that aims to improve the global state by engaging leaders from business, politics, and society to shape the future of industries and regions around the world.
