(KPL/VNA) The Royal Government of Cambodia is focusing on boosting clean and renewable energy in alignment with sustainable development goals as evident in the group of power projects approved for the 2024-2029 period.

The government’s commitment to sustainable energy was reaffirmed by Minister of Mines and Energy Keo Rottanak during the recent “Cambodian Energy Policy” forum held at the Royal University of Phnom Penh.

Among the 23 newly approved energy projects, totalling an investment of 5.79 billion USD, are 12 solar power projects, six wind power ones, and a mix of other renewable energy ventures. They include 21 electricity generation projects with a total capacity of 3,950 MW, predominantly from clean energy sources.

This move will ensure Cambodia meets its growing energy demand at affordable prices while working toward its goal of having 70% clean energy by 2030.

Minister Rottanak affirmed Cambodia’s dedication to clean energy and environmental protection, emphasising that the country will not develop hydropower on the Mekong River’s main stream and has halted new coal power projects.
