Donations can be made at the Luang Namtha conference hall or through BCEL account number 0701100356847 under the name "The impact of the flood disaster in Luang Namtha province."
Provincial authorities are relocating residents from flooded areas in Luang Namtha, but urgent needs include medicine, clothing, food, drinking water, and boats. Local officials are accepting donations, and the Laos-China Railway Co. Ltd. is providing free transport for relief supplies. Bokeo International Airport has waived landing and service fees until Luang Namtha Airport resumes normal operations.
Since heavy rains began on September 7, many villages in Luang Namtha have been affected, with one man dead and another missing. A flood alert was issued Wednesday as rain persists and the Mekong River rises, with Luang Prabang and Savannakhet also at risk. The Mekong level in Luang Prabang reached 17.78 meters, above the warning level of 17.5 meters, while the Xechamphone River in Savannakhet rose to 7.59 meters, just above the 7.5-meter warning level. Further increases are expected from September 11-13.
