Standing Committee of the National Assembly considers fundamental national issues

KPL The Standing Committee of the National Assembly held its monthly meeting for August 2024 on September 3-4, chaired by Mr Saysomphone Phomvihane, President of the National Assembly. Attendees included Vice Presidents, committee members of the Standing Committee, ministers, deputy ministers, and relevant agencies.

(KPL)The Standing Committee of the National Assembly held its monthly meeting for August 2024 on September 3-4, chaired by Mr Saysomphone Phomvihane, President of the National Assembly. Attendees included Vice Presidents, committee members of the Standing Committee, ministers, deputy ministers, and relevant agencies.

The meeting discussed key national issues within the mandate and responsibilities of the Standing Committee as outlined in the Constitution and laws. The agenda included the government's proposal to amend the concession agreement for the Don Sahong Hydropower Project, and a proposal for exempting income taxes, increasing cost-of-living subsidies for government employees, soldiers, police, pensioners, and national heroes.

Additionally, the meeting considered the draft budget allocation plan for state investment in 2025 and a proposal from the Vientiane People’s Council to consult with the government on reviewing approvals for the exploration, survey, and mining of potash in Vientiane.

Other reports included the progress of three key laws: the Law on the National Assembly, the Law on Provincial People's Assemblies, and the Law on Elections of National Assembly Members and Provincial People’s Assemblies. A report was also given on amendments to the draft Law on Investment Promotion and on various preparations for hosting the 45th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) and the ASEAN-AIPA leaders' summit.

Lastly, the meeting reviewed three petitions for justice submitted by the public.
