(KPL) The Zhejiang Normal University (ZJNU), Zhejiang, China is hosting the Seminar for Journalism Organization Executives from Belt and Road countries (Jul 18-Aug 1, 2024).

The seminar was opened on Thursday by Deputy Director of ZJNU Zheng Gengfu, Secretary of ZJNU Yu Tao and distinguished journalists from Belt and Road Initiative countries including Laos.

The seminar aims to introduce the practical experience of China's development in the field of journalism and communication following the Reform and Opening-up, disseminate the advanced experience of China's national economic and cultural development and the role and function of journalism and communication in this process for the heads of journalist organizations along the Belt and Road.

This workshop also aims to equip participants with deep experience and understanding of Chinese culture, and socio-economic development of China.

During the seminar, the participant will meet well-known experts and scholars in relevant fields, who will give thought-provoking lectures on the application of China's social media and new media, city branding, digital communication of intangible cultural heritage and all-media integrated development.

Deputy Director of ZJNU Zheng Gengfu said that news media plays a crucial role in information transmission and public opinion guidance. It undertakes the mission of "publicizing social values, rallying public support, educating the young, developing the culture, and displaying the image".

With the rapid development of the Internet, big data, and information technology, mass media has been undergoing profound changes.

As emerging media is gaining momentum, news outlets have to swiftly adapt to the new characteristics and new trends, proactively embrace social responsibilities in the age of all-media, and give full play to the guiding role of news media.

“I hope this seminar will provide you a platform to strengthen exchanges and share experiences, and also give you some reflections upon the development of media industry. It is also hoped that this seminar will not only enhance media cooperation between China and BRI countries, but also foster collaborative efforts among all participants to address the challenges of the digital age,” said Zheng Gengfu.
