2nd Laos-China Belt and Road Cooperation Forum kicks off in Vientiane

KPL (KPL) The 2nd Laos-China Belt and Road Cooperation Forum kicked off in Vientiane on Dec 7 to further promote the Belt and Road communication and cooperation between the two countries and benefit peoples of the two countries.

(KPL) The 2nd Laos-China Belt and Road Cooperation Forum kicked off in Vientiane on Dec 7 to further promote the Belt and Road communication and cooperation between the two countries and benefit peoples of the two countries.

The opening session of the forum saw the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Kikeo Khaykhamphithoun, President of Xinhua News Agency Fu Hua, Chinese Charge d’ Affairs Wang Chang, Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism Suansavanh Viyaket and more than 400 senior officials and representatives of the government bodies and business community of Laos and China.

"The 2nd Laos-China Belt and Road Cooperation Forum is an important event to review the results of the implementation of activities, programmes, projects of each sector, as a platform for discussion and widening cooperation, economic-commercial exchange, investment of the public sector and business units of the two countries Laos and China,” said Deputy Prime Minister  Kikeo Khaykhamphithoun.

“Laos and China are neighbours with share future and destiny.  We always pay attention to and actively support each other through continuing increasing and promoting cooperation in areas of economy, trade, investment, exchange of information, culture, technology as well as people-to-people exchange,” said Deputy Prime Minister Kikeo.

“This meeting will further strengthen the cooperative relationship between the Lao PDR and China, promote mutual understanding and friendship between the people of the two countries and increase exchange and cooperation between the media, culture and tourism sectors of Laos and China,” said Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism Suansavanh Viyaket.

“Today, the investment in tourism development by investors from China is on a rise. Chinese investment in developing tourism facilities in the provinces along the Lao-China railway corridor has contributed to turning the Lao-China railway into an economic corridor that generates huge incomes for the nation, helps address economic difficulties of the country, attract more regional and international tourists,” said the minister.

The participants from the two countries also discussed cooperation opportunities and constructive and implementable recommendations made by officials, experts, as well as points of view shared by representatives of chambers of commerce, financial institutes, tourism sector, Chinese enterprises investing in Laos and Chinese investors interested in doing business in Laos.  

The Laos-China Belt and Road Cooperation Forum was co-hosted by the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism; Xinhua News Agency; Lao News Agency, and China Economic Information Service of the Xinhua News Agency.
