Construction of Vientiane’s (BRT) system signed

(KPL) Lao government will improve the quality of life in Vientiane by improving access bus route and Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) station from Chao Fa Ngoum Park to Patuxay and from Patuxayto the National University of Laos.

The agreement was held in Vientiane on November 17, between the Deputy Director of the Transport Department of the Ministry of Defense Mr.VilayphanXayavongand Chairman of the Advisory Board of Van Formula Co., Ltd. (Thailand) Mr. SapsangaBounkhonpasert.

 The financial support has been obtained for the Vientiane Sustainable Urban Transport Project, a large-scale project aimed at improving public transport and easing traffic congestion in the Lao capital’s city center.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a 35 million USD loan, with another 15 million USD loan provided by the OPEC Fund for International Development and a 20 million USD loan provided by the European Investment Bank (EIB).

At ceremony, Head of Vientiane Urban Sustainable Transport Project Mr. KhamphanVanthana, said that the funding will support construction of Vientiane’s BRT system, improve the quality of life in Vientiane by improving access and mobility.

It will achieve this by establishing, sustainable urban transport management agency, High-quality bus services and a BRT, Traffic management in the core area of Vientiane, a paid parking system and national vehicle registration system.

The project will try to work with the contractor to complete the main work above by July 2024.
