(KPL) Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka to Laos Manilay Thiphalansy on Feb 4 hosted a reception party to celebrate the 75th Independence Day of Sri Lanka (Feb 4, 1948-2023).

Diplomatic officials, Sri Lankans living in Laos and relevant officials were present at the event.

Honorary Consul Manilay Thiphalansy read the speech delivered by Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe at the National Independence Day Celebration in Colombo as Independence Day Messages of Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena and Foreign Minister Ali Sabry were read by Roshen Rarhnaraja and Dilip Henesman.

Sri Lanka was under colonial power for 443 years, and ruled by Portuguese, Dutch, British, from 1505 to 1948 and the political struggle for independence was unitedly led by Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim leaders, and its lost freedom was finally won back on 4th February in 1948.

“We can also overcome most challenges by being united together, as the President Ranil Wickremesinghe is ready to give the necessary leadership. At this difficult time, we all as responsible citizens of Sri Lanka have a national responsibility to work together and build our motherland and support the Government to create a productive citizen, a happy family, a disciplined society and a prosperous nation,” stated the Honorary Consul.

Recalling Sri Lanka - Laos bilateral relations based on shared history and common spiritual heritage, guided and nurtured by the timeless message of the Lord Buddha, the diplomat added that her earnest hope is that those excellent bonds of friendship and cooperation will be expanded into new avenues of cooperation, especially in trade, economic fields and investment with the blessings of the President Thongloun Sisoulith of the Lao People's Democratic Republic.
