KPL The Vientiane Women’s Union has reviewed its work over the first nine months of 2026 and outlined priorities for the final quarter and 2027, focusing on women’s empowerment, vocational training, gender equality and the protection of women and children.

(KPL) The review took place at the union’s Second Executive Committee Plenary Meeting of its Ninth Term on October 8-9, chaired by President Liankham Vilaphan. Lao Women’s Union President Aly Vongnorbountham and Vientiane Party Committee Deputy Secretary Thavixay Maosomphou also attended.

Vientiane has 57,380 female union members, organised into 666 grassroots units and 169 branches. The union has continued promoting policies and laws while providing counselling and support services for women and children through hotlines and digital platforms.

The union also provided relief supplies, financial assistance and vocational training to families affected by hailstorms in Phon Somboun village. Training included golden apple snail farming to help 25 families develop income-generating activities.

Financial support has also been provided through a women’s and family development microfinance institution, which operates 34 service units. It has a revolving fund of more than LAK 1.23 billion and has issued loans totalling LAK 4.43 billion to support livelihoods and income generation.

For the final quarter of 2026, the union plans to continue policy education, mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and World Children’s Day, and strengthen cooperation with women’s organisations in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, including plans to sign a memorandum of understanding in November.

Looking ahead to 2027, the union will focus on expanding vocational training for disadvantaged women, promoting gender equality, protecting the rights of women and children, strengthening family development and improving the transparency and legal compliance of mutual-aid funds
