Minister of Public Works and Transport Leklai Sivilay is leading a Lao delegation at the Global Sustainable Transport Forum 2026, held in Beijing, China, from September 21–24.
(KPL) The forum brings together transport ministers, UN officials, ambassadors and other representatives to exchange experiences and discuss ways to advance sustainable, safe and efficient transport systems.
The meeting focuses on strengthening global connectivity, supporting implementation of the Global Development Initiative, advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and promoting the Decade of Sustainable Transport Action Plan 2026–2035.
Participants are also discussing the development of green transport and the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in the transport sector, while promoting the forum as a platform for international consultation and cooperation.
Key discussions include improving the safety, resilience, efficiency and environmental sustainability of transport systems; facilitating trade, investment and cross-border transport; and expanding access to affordable, safe and inclusive transport infrastructure.
The forum also examines the role of transport in supporting local communities, industrial development and efforts to reduce development gaps and improve living standards.
The Lao PDR’s participation provides an opportunity to exchange experience with international partners and explore approaches to modernising the country’s transport sector, strengthening regional connectivity and promoting more sustainable transport development
