(KPL) Thai naval authorities have arrested a Lao national and seized more than 1.3 million methamphetamine pills during a patrol operation along the Mekong River in Sangkhom District on February 27, 2026.

According to Royal Thai Navy spokesperson Vice Admiral Pharad Rattanachaipan, the Mekong River Patrol (Nong Khai Sector) and the Sangkhom Naval Station were conducting routine surveillance near Ban Pak Som, Pha Tang Sub-district, when officers observed suspicious activity along the riverbank at approximately 7:20 PM.

Authorities intercepted a boat and seized approximately 1,316,800 methamphetamine pills, commonly known as yaba, concealed in four bags. The boat operator, identified as Long Meunsy, a 46-year-old Lao national, was taken into custody at the scene.

The suspect and seized narcotics were transported to the Sangkhom Naval Station for documentation before being transferred to police investigators for further legal proceedings.
