General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) To Lam arrived in Vientiane on Monday morning for an official visit to the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, accompanied by his spouse and a high-level Party and State delegation.

The two-day visit is made at the invitation of Thongloun Sisoulith, General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) and President of Laos, and his spouse. During the visit, General Secretary Lam will attend events marking the 50th Anniversary of Laos’ National Day and co-chair a high-level meeting between the CPV and LPRP leadership.

Upon arrival at Wattay International Airport, the Vietnamese leader was welcomed by Bounthong Chitmany, Politburo Member, Permanent Member of the LPRP Central Committee Secretariat, and Vice President of Laos, along with other senior Lao officials.

The visit is regarded as one of Vietnam’s most important diplomatic activities in 2025 and marks General Secretary Lam’s first state visit to Laos since assuming his new role. It takes place at a pivotal moment as Laos celebrates the golden jubilee of its founding and as both Parties prepare for their National Congresses in 2026, events that will define long-term political and development directions for each nation.
