Lao Leaders Meet with Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister in Vientiane

KPL Top Lao leaders met with Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prak Sokhonn, during his official visit to the Lao PDR and his participation in the 15th Meeting of the Lao–Cambodia Joint Commission on Bilateral Cooperation, held from 26–28 November in Vientiane.

President Thongloun Sisoulith received Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn and his delegation at the Presidential Palace on 27 November in Vientaine. He hailed the visit as an important contribution to strengthening the long-standing friendship and expanding cooperation between the two neighbours. President Thongloun conveyed his greetings to King Norodom Sihamoni, the Queen Mother, and senior Cambodian leaders, and expressed appreciation for the progress reported during the Joint Commission meeting.

Prak Sokhonn thanked the President for the warm reception and relayed greetings from the Cambodian monarch and senior officials. He briefed the President on the outcomes of the 15th JC meeting, noting that it had produced constructive results and reflected strong mutual trust. He reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to working closely with Laos to implement the agreed-upon decisions.

Earlier that day, Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone also held talks with the Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister. He extended his congratulations to Cambodia on its recent 72nd Independence Day and commended the country’s political stability, economic progress, and improvements in living standards. He likewise conveyed his greetings to Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet.

Prak Sokhonn informed the Lao Prime Minister that the Joint Commission had endorsed a detailed memorandum covering 21 major areas of cooperation and 96 sub-topics, spanning politics, defence and security, economic partnership, public health, education, culture, and broader social development.

The two Lao leaders and the Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister also discussed further cooperation in border management, energy and electricity exchange, transport connectivity, trade, tourism, and investment. All sides reaffirmed their commitment to advancing a comprehensive and enduring strategic partnership.

The visit underscored the determination of Laos and Cambodia to translate high-level political ties into concrete results that benefit both nations.
