(KPL) President Thongloun Sisoulith led a high-level Party-State delegation in a traditional almsgiving ceremony at That Luang in Vientiane on the morning of 5 November, marking one of the most significant events of the annual That Luang Festival (Boun Namatsakan Phra That Luang Vientiane) 2025.
The ceremony, which included the offering of Sangkhathaan (donations to the Sangha), drew large numbers of Buddhist devotees from across the country who gathered to make merit and pay homage at the That Luang stupa — regarded as the most sacred monument in Laos and a symbol of national unity.

The That Luang Festival, celebrated annually during the 12th month of the Lao lunar calendar, commemorates the stupa’s religious and cultural importance. The week-long event features merit-making, music, parades, traditional games, and trade fairs, attracting both local residents and international visitors.
President Thongloun’s participation in the morning almsgiving reflected the continued significance of the festival in promoting Buddhist values and reinforcing national identity.

Festivities on the final day will continue in the afternoon with a fireworks procession and traditional sports competitions, including khee ball, before concluding in the evening with a candlelight procession around the stupa to mark the official closing of the celebration.
The That Luang Festival stands as a symbol of Laos’s enduring spiritual heritage, blending religious devotion with vibrant community life and cultural pride.
