KPL Tourism Malaysia, in collaboration with the Embassy of Malaysia, officially launched the Malaysia Tourism and Education Expo 2025 at Parkson Mall on September 13-14. The event served as a vibrant celebration of cultural diplomacy and educational exchange, marking a significant push to promote Malaysian tourism ahead of the highly anticipated Visit Malaysia Year 2026.

The Expo was inaugurated by Mr. Edi Irwan bin Mahmud, Ambassador of Malaysia to the Lao PDR, Ms. Phonemaly Inthaphome, Director General of the Tourism Department, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism as well as ambassadors and international organisations.

The launch fittingly coincided with several key Malaysian national holidays—the country's 68th National Day, 62nd Malaysia Day, and 92nd Armed Forces Day—all celebrated under the unifying theme “Malaysia MADANI: Unity Determined, Fulfilling Hope.”

In his opening address, Ambassador Edi Irwan emphasized the importance of cultural and educational exchange as a cornerstone for deepening bilateral relations. “This Expo reflects our continuous effort to promote Malaysia as a premier destination for tourism and education,” he stated. “It also builds crucial momentum toward Visit Malaysia Year 2026, where we aim to welcome 45 million international visitors.”

The Ambassador's remarks were underscored by ambitious targets: Malaysia is aiming for 31.3 million international tourist arrivals in 2025, with an expected revenue of RM102.7 billion. Tourist arrivals from Laos have shown promising and steady growth, with 26,085 visitors recorded in 2024 and over 12,000 arrivals in just the first five months of 2025. This upward trend is bolstered by increased direct flight connectivity between Vientiane and Kuala Lumpur, as well as convenient regional connections via Singapore and Bangkok.

The two-day Expo featured 15 booths from a diverse range of participants, including Tourism Malaysia, the Laos Tourism Development Department, leading Lao travel agencies, and four Malaysian educational institutions promoting study opportunities. Visitors had exclusive access to special tour packages, on-the-spot education consultations, and valuable event-only discounts.

The event was energized by vibrant cultural performances, engaging games, and an exciting lucky draw. To celebrate the upcoming Visit Malaysia Year 2026, visitors who booked a tour package during the Expo were automatically entered into a draw for a chance to win fantastic prizes, including one first prize, three second prizes, and five third prizes.

As Malaysia prepares to host World Tourism Day 2025 in Melaka later this month, the successful Expo in Vientiane stands as a testament to the country's commitment to fostering sustainable tourism, cultural heritage, and international collaboration.
