(KPL) The Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Bokeo Province commemorated the 38th International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking with a series of educational and community-focused activities, reaffirming the region’s commitment to a drug-free future.
Organized jointly by the SEZ Management Board, local authorities, and key stakeholders, the June 26 event brought together provincial security forces, SEZ officials, educators, students, businesses, and community members. The program highlighted cross-border cooperation and community empowerment as central themes in the fight against drug abuse.
A key feature was an educational excursion at Dok Ngiew Kham Primary School involving students and youth from Laos, China, and Myanmar. Participants visited anti-drug learning sites, including the statue of the anti-drug goddess, the Golden Triangle Cultural and History Museum, and a model house representing the tri-nation community. Teachers led discussions on the dangers of drug use and hosted Q&A sessions to engage youth in prevention efforts.

The day also featured a community health walk promoting healthy living and drug prevention. The procession included Mr. Khamsaveng Vilayphong, Acting Head of the SEZ Management and Administration Organization; Mr. Li Zhao, Director of the SEZ Culture and Tourism Development Center; local police, teachers, students, and residents marching together in solidarity.
An anti-drug seminar added depth to the commemoration, with participation from Mr. Lounphai Khamthavivong, Deputy Chief of the Bokeo Provincial Police, and Mr. Khamsavat Keopanya, Deputy Director of the SEZ Management and Administration Organization. Discussions focused on prevention strategies, enforcement, rehabilitation, and the broader socio-economic impact of drug abuse.
The event underscored the Golden Triangle SEZ’s dedication to education, collaboration, and community participation in addressing drug-related challenges and building a safer, healthier society.
