(KPL/VNA) The number of dengue fever cases in Laos reached 1,464 as of June 4, according to the Lao Ministry of Health.

The capital Vientiane saw the highest number of cases, with 511; followed by Sekong province with 157 cases, and Luang Prabang province 142 cases. However, no deaths have been reported so far this year.

Medical experts warn that dengue fever is a dangerous disease if not detected and treated promptly. Patients often have symptoms such as high fever and headache. When showing any suspected signs, people are strongly advised to visit medical facilities for proper examination and treatment. Self-medicating at home is strictly discouraged to avoid the risks of antibiotic resistance or severe complications.

To prevent the spread of the disease, Lao health authorities have called on citizens across the country to raise awareness of prevention measures. These include regularly cleaning living environments, eliminating stagnant water sources, disposing old tires, changing water in flower vases, wearing long-sleeved clothing, and using mosquito repellent sprays or coils. These practices should be maintained consistently, especially during the rainy season when the mosquito population that transmits the disease is most active.

(KPL) For Beng Seanmeung, it is a sight she will never forget, and it was her epiphany. “I remember seeing a neighbour giving birth, losing a lot of blood and being rushed to the hospital. It was on this day that I decided,” said Beng, reflecting back on this day when aged just 17 years old and about to graduate from secondary school.
