(KPL) On April 3, Russian President Vladimir Putin sent a letter of condolence to his counterpart, Thongloun Sisoulith, following the passing of former President Khamtai Siphandone.
The message read: "I would like to express my deepest condolences for the loss of the late President Khamtay Siphandone, a former Secretary General of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and former President of the Lao People's Democratic Republic. The key events in the modern history of the Lao People's Democratic Republic are closely linked to the name of this distinguished political leader. Mr. Khamtay Siphandone was one of the prominent leaders who fought for the nation and played a major role in the establishment of the Lao People's Democratic Republic. The Russian Federation will commemorate the achievements of Mr. Khamtay in his capacity as a leader in supporting the long-standing friendship and cooperation between our two countries, which contributed to the strengthening of bilateral ties, ultimately benefiting both nations. I would like to send my heartfelt thoughts and share the sorrow of his family and friends during this difficult time."
