KPL The National Assembly Standing Committee has urged the government to step up efforts during the final quarter of 2026 to achieve the country's socio-economic development targets, including the annual economic growth target of 5.5 percent.

(KPL) NA Vice President Vilayvong Bouddakham delivered the recommendations on behalf of the NA Standing Committee during the 2nd Ordinary Session of the 10th National Assembly on October 5.

The recommendations called for stronger measures to maintain macroeconomic stability, improve revenue collection and mobilise financial resources for national development.

The government was urged to strengthen monetary policy, promote wider use of the Lao kip, ensure foreign exchange earnings from exports are brought into the banking system, and closely monitor fuel and commodity prices to help contain living costs.

Revenue collection should be strengthened in areas that have underperformed against approved concession agreements, particularly land leases, mineral resources and mining-related fees. The government was also encouraged to mobilise available funding, including 13.8 trillion kip in Official Development Assistance, to support national development targets.

On infrastructure and natural resources, the NA Standing Committee called for accelerated repair of roads, irrigation systems and other public infrastructure damaged by recent disasters. It also urged stricter management of mining operations, completion of evaluations and action plans for Category C and C+ mining projects, and a shift from exporting raw minerals towards greater domestic processing.

In agriculture, authorities were encouraged to implement short-term crop production measures to help compensate for shortfalls in rice production caused by recent disruptions.

The recommendations also placed emphasis on education, healthcare and social development. Measures include reducing school dropout rates through non-formal education and vocational training, updating labour skill standards, restoring damaged schools and health facilities, ensuring adequate supplies of medicines, and improving maternal and child nutrition.

The NA Standing Committee further called for faster UXO clearance in agricultural and development areas, stronger implementation of rural development and poverty reduction programmes, and an update of poverty and development criteria in line with international standards.

Drug control was also highlighted, with authorities urged to implement the newly adopted list of prohibited narcotics and controlled chemical substances to strengthen enforcement and combat drug-related problems.
